II. Apex Legends Overview

Apex Legends Season Structure

    1. CEA Spring 2023 Season Calendar
      • See Section I. SEASON STRUCTURE ABOVE
    2. CEA Season Format Overview
      • Preseason
        • One practice week which follows the same rules and weekly structure as the regular season. The preseason week is mandatory so that the CEA and teams can work out logistic kinks before charity prizes are on the line! Read the specific game rules for the weekly schedule.
      • Regular Season
        • The Regular Season will be a non-elimination ‘grand prix’ system with teams earning points based on their performance over multiple games each match.
        • The top 2 teams from the Regular Season will earn a spot directly in the grand finals.
        • Byes:
          • Considering the amount of teams registered this season, CEA has insituted byes and changed the season format (from 10 to 11 games).
          • All teams will receive 1 bye week throughout the regular season.
          • Each week there will be 2 teams will recieve a bye making it 20 active teams each week.
          • Byes will be posted on the CEA Apex discord channels & on playcea.
      • Playoffs
        • All teams will be invited to the playoff stage.
        • As noted above, the top 2 teams from the Regular Season will earn a spot directly in the grand finals.
        • The remaining 20 teams will play in the first playoff week in a "elimination playoff".
        • The grand final will bring the remaining 18 teams with the top 2 teams from the regular season.
        • Going into the playoffs, all teams will start each playoff match with points based on their regular season performance. Points will correspond with the season points.
          • IE. Team with a season position of 1st will go into the Grand final with 12 points.
      • The Grand Finals will be broadcast live on Twitch with professional commentators. Schedule and rough timing will be announced at the beginning of Playoffs.
    3. Weekly Structure of the League
      • Each “week” or “match” is defined by 3 games played in succession (5 games in playoff matches).
  1. CEA - Apex Legends Overview
    1. Definitions
      • Match = Set of 3 games in the regular season (5 games in playoffs)
    2. In the event more than 20 teams are registered, teams will be broken into match groups based on current season standings.
      • Similar to sports leagues with promotion/relegation structures, each match’s seeding will work similarly with teams in season positions 1 through 20 in server/match 1 and teams in season positions 21 through 40 in server/match 2.
        • Therefore in the example of 35 teams, server/match 1 would contain teams in season positions 1 through 18 and server/match 2 would contain teams in season positions 19 through 35.
    3. Maps
      • The Apex map will be rotated each week.
      • (1) Map per week.
      • Map selection will be at the Apex Game Lead’s discretion.
      • Map list:
        • World's Edge
        • Kings Canyon
        • Olympus
        • Storm Point
    4. Rosters
      • Each team’s roster must consist of at least 3 players.
      • Each team’s roster will be allowed to have 3 main players and unlimited substitutes.
      • A substitute player may be added before or during any match.
      • Playing solo is allowed, each team’s lobby roster needs at least 1 players to start or continue playing the game. ***Changed for Fall 2022 season
      • A player and/or substitute may not represent more than one (1) team in a single match week.
    5. Match Reporting
      1. All captains are responsible for submitting results of each match on playcea.
      2. Teams may be pentalized season points or miss out on games if captains falsify or neglict match information.
    6. Floaters
      • Within the same company and within the same game's tournament, a player may play on multiple rosters with the following restrictions:
        • All teams must meet the minimum team size without counting any players who are listed on multiple teams.
        • Shared players still count towards a team’s maximum roster size.
        • A player on multiple rosters may only play for one of those teams of each game in any given week. Violation of this rule will lead to disqualification from the CEA.
        • If a company elects to have floaters for any of its games, a representative of the company should inform that game's Game Lead which rosters are affected, and inform the game lead each week which team that floater will play on.
        • The maximum number of floaters allowed across a company's teams in a particular tournament depends on the number of teams that company has in the tournament as well as the minimum roster size for that tournament, and is as follows:
          1. 2-3 Teams = 1 Floaters
          2. 4-6 Teams = 2 Floaters
          3. 7-9 Teams = 3 Floaters
        • Each floater may be rostered on no more than 3 teams. Each team may have no more than 2 floaters.
        • Cross-Game policy
          1. Within the same company, players are typically discouraged from playing on teams across multiple games. Doing so may be allowed at Game Leads' discretion as long as the following criteria are met:
            1. All teams must meet the minimum team size without counting any players who are listed on multiple teams.
            2. Teams should understand that relying on a Cross-Game player's availability is not a suitable reason to reschedule a match (all matches occur at Noon Pacific on Saturday by default)
            3. A Cross-Game player should not plan to be a primary player on more than 1 team.
      • Half-Team / Joint-Team Policy:
        • A Joint-Team may consist of members from different companies if the following criteria are met:
          1. There are no more than 2 companies represented on the team.
          2. The companies represented are not represented by any other teams in a single game's tournament.
          3. A Joint-Team is subject to all other rules normally surrounding CEA teams.
          4. A Joint-Team may have 1 single captain from either company, or may have 2 captains total (1 from each company).
        • Half-Team / Joint-Team Registering
          1. Two Half-Teams may combine and register as a Joint-Team through the normal registration process without first consulting CEA. Please list both companies on the registration form.
          2. Half-Teams may also consult CEA for help with pairing, and upon being paired will register as a Joint-Team through the normal registration process.
    7. The week’s match round will start at 1PM PST unless announced otherwise. The estimated schedule can be found on the tournament overview. Some rounds might get delayed, for all the information please check our discord for any changes or updates.

    9. Games of each round are followed by each other without a break unless specified otherwise.
    10. The join-codes to join the custom game will be provided to team captains.
      • To join a custom game in-game click on the choose a game mode icon and select the small podium icon in the top right corner. There you paste the code and you will join the custom match. When joining a custom game, you cannot be in the party, you will regroup in the custom match with your squad.
    11. After each game, a new code will need to be used, so please do not stay in the lobby, but leave and rejoin with the proper join code provided by your team’s captain.
    12. All the players' nicknames in-game have to match with players registered on CEA’s site and nicknames have to be correct as well. Not having the correct nickname will result in putting the person to the unassigned slot. Please check that your nickname in-game matches with the nickname on the CEA Apex Legends league’s page.
    13. All players have to be in the lobby before the time limit goes down (5 minutes, displayed with the lobby information). If you have any issues please communicate with the admins on the discord or with the lobby host in-game.
    14. Players are not allowed to share the code.
    15. Prior to the start of each Match, the Team Captain is required to enter the Team name in the custom in-Game lobby for each Match. III. Rules

  1. General
    • Coverall statement - Taking advantage of known exploits in the Game (it is the responsibility of players to understand and avoid all current illegal exploits).
Simply put, if it is illegal in ALGS, it is illegal in CEA.
    • Cross-Platform. PC or Console.
    • All players are allowed to have only one (1) account at CEA per person. All information registered on your account needs to be up-to-date and to have the correct information.
    • You are not allowed to share or use another person’s CEA account. Your account is for your use and your use alone.
    • If you face any issues with your account, contact support through CEA discord..
    • All settings in each match will be the default settings of a ranked match of Apex.
    • Any map available in a public playlist in Apex may be played in an online tournament.
    • Players that choose to stream their matches must use a minimum five-minute delay.
    • Players may not quit out of a match before it has ended.
    • Players may not intentionally delay the start of a match.
    • Players may not use any game-changing scripts.
    • Players may not exploit a game mechanic to enter and exit the 30-second “out-of-bounds” kill timer.
    • Examples of this include repeatedly using a zip line, grapple, portal, balloon, or other character ability to repeatedly enter the same area that activates the “out-of-bounds” timer.
    • Players may not intentionally exploit one-sided textures on map geometry to block or avoid any incoming damage.
    • Players may not hide inside of the map’s geometry.
    • Players may not intentionally hide behind invisible walls on the map.
    • Players may not fire their weapon while in the downed state.
    • Players may not fire their weapon while reviving another player.
    • Players may not exploit a Legend’s ability in order to gain an unintended competitive advantage.
    • Players may not intentionally melee loot bins, supply drops, and/or respawn beacons in an effort to launch themselves or other players into the air.
    • Players are responsible for their equipment throughout the tournament.
  2. Spectator slots
    • Spectator slots may be occupied by Casters, CEA representatives and their designees, or players from either team not currently playing. Such players may stream from the Spectator slot.
  3. Scheduling/Forfeits
    • The first game of each round will generally begin at the specified time.
    • If a team misses the start of the game, they will assume a score of 0 for said game. Said teams are still eligible in the other games that match/weekend.
  4. Drop zones/POIs: Based on the feedback and my ability to even administrate it, we have chosen to go with the option “NO ASSIGNED DROP ZONES (CAPTAINS WOULD BE FREE TO ANNOUNCE THEMSELVES IF THEY WANT)”.
    1. Teams that still wish to announce it are free to do it in the captains channel...for better or for worse. I will not be keeping a separate sheet for this.

IV. Technical Issues

  1. Game Server Restarts
  • These are the guidelines regarding a game server restart while the game is in the starting process:
  • More than 10% of the players in the lobby are not making it into the game.
  • If the game is being broadcasted and the caster or observer in the lobby does not make it into the game.
  • If the Game host doesn’t make it into the game.
  • Remakes can be additionally called if the server crashes for the majority of the players or if the server is experiencing latency issues from the start of the game. If the latency issues occur later in the game, the game will continue.
  • If needed the Game host or Host lead can decide to change the data-center for a single match or the tournament itself.
  • All the reasons above can be overruled by the Game host, Host lead if they see fit for the situation in question. If a game server crashes mid game the decision will be made by the Game host, Host lead on a case-by-case basis if the game should be replayed or not.
  • Game File Editing
    • Competitors may only add or edit the following Game files:
      • Local.cfg
      • Autoexec.cfg
    • Competitors may only add or edit the following lines in the files specified above:
      • Fps_max
      • Mat_letterbox_aspect_goal
      • Mat_letterbox_aspect_threshold
      • Csm_enabled
    • All 3rd party software or tools that are not allowed by the game publisher and that can give an unfair advantage to a player or team is classed as cheating and is not allowed. Examples of software that are not allowed are ReShade, SweetFX, and VibranceGUI.
    • Anything that can be viewed as a bug or exploit will be reviewed by the admin team and judged on a case-by-case basis, examples of such can be:
    • Quitting out of a Match before it has ended to deny a kill.
    • Leaving the normal boundaries of a map in a way that does not activate an “out-of-bounds” timer or other exploits that results in the Competitor being able to remain outside of the circle (in the orange) without taking damage.
    • Sitting on the spots which are not supposed to be used by map design. (For example: Spot surrounded by 30 seconds kill timer.)
  • Exploits
    • Exploiting a game mechanic to enter and exit the 30-second “out-of-bounds” kill timer consecutively in the same area. (Examples of this include repeatedly using a zipline, grapple, portal, balloon, or other character ability to repeatedly enter the same area that activates the “out-of-bounds” timer.)
    • Exploiting game mechanics to stay on slippery surfaces.
    • Usage of the double zipline next to each other.
    • Intentionally exploiting one-sided textures on map geometry to block or avoid any incoming damage that would have otherwise connected without the exploited geometry.
    • Hiding inside of map geometry or behind invisible walls on the mapFire from the weapon while in the Downed state or while reviving.
    • Exploiting Legend abilities to gain an unfair advantage.
    • Exploiting mechanics to increase reload speed of the weapons.
    • Melee loot bins, supply drops, and/or respawn beacons in an effort to launch themselves or other players into the air

    V. Season Format

    1. Fall 2022 CEA format is Unique as it is subject to change each season based on the number of registered teams.
