The Corporate Esports Association with the support from the US Chess Federation and the US Chess College Committee, proudly invites

Transportation

You have multiple options to travel from the Airport to the Hotel.

  • Light Rail: The likely easiest way and cheapest way to travel is the Seattle Light Rail. It roughly takes 40 min between the Airport and Downtown Seattle. Exit at the Westlake Station from which the Hotel is less than 5 minutes walk away. Trains depart from the airport roughly every 5-10 min with and runs $3.00 per Person fares.
  • Taxi/Uber/Lyft are all available as well and usually take between $40-$60 depending demand. Follow signs for ride share from the airport.

Main Events Information

Pan-American Intercollegiate team chess championship


Tournament Mode

The 2023 Pan-American Intercollegiate Team Championships generally follows previous years' tournament mode with a 6-Rounds of Swiss Tournament played with teams of 4.
Time Control: G/90 with a 30-second increment

Full rulebook: Pan-American Intercollegiate Team Chess Championship Rulebook

Changes: Instead of one single section, the tournament will be split into an Open and a U1800 section (average team rating applies)

Byes & Default forfeit time: No half-point byes (only zero point byes). Withdrawls must be submitted to the Organizer/Chief TD atleast 2 hours before the Round start (Teams not withdrawing properly will be fined $150). A player and/or team will forfeit the game if they are not present at the board within 1 hour (60 minutes) after the start of the round.

Lineup Submission: Lineup submissions for each round are due 1 hour before each round.

Ratings: Team average ratings are based on individual ratings taken of the December Suplement Rating


Player Eligibility

See Section 2 of the Pan-American Intercollegiate Team Chess Championship Rulebook

All players need to submit the Student Eligibility Form no later than January 3, 2023. The form can be uploaded here:
The original needs to be submitted in person during onsite team registration.


Entry Fee

General Registration fee: $200
Late Registration fee: $250 (after December 1st 2022)

The general entry fee for teams entering the U1800 section is covered by Red Bull.

Open Section Discount: for teams with at least 2 players of the team roster and at least 4 players total from their school participating in fall 2022 Collegiate Chess League (play at least 5 weeks), chess.com covers 50% of the general entry fee.


Registration Process

Step 1 - Team Registration:

  • Team registration is independent from Roster Submission. Once a team is registered, you can follow up with Step 2.

Step 2 - Roster Registration:

  • Once the team is registered, the captain can submit the team roster.
  • All Players on a team need to fill out the Student Eligibility form in order for them to be considerd on a roster (See Player Eligibility)
  • Roster registrations have to be submitted by 12/31/22

Awards

Team & Individual Tie-breaks will be used as specified in the PanAm Rules.

o Plaque to top four-year small college team (<5000 enrollment)

o Plaque to best Mixed Doubles team (2 males and 2 females)

o Top team upset in all 6 rounds

Pan-American Intercorporate Team Chess Championship

Tournament Mode

The 2023 Pan-American Intercorporate Team Championships is a 3-player team competition.

The tournament is organized as a single section 5-Rounds of Swiss Tournament.

Time Control: G/60 with a 10-second increment


Player Eligibility

All players on a team have to be full time employed by the same company. Temporary works (interns, contractors) are permitted to play for their teams.

General Registration fee: $200
Late Registration fee: $250 (after December 31, 2022)

The general registration fee for teams that enter the CEA Mentorship Program and join the networking mixer is waived!


 

If we have less than 16 teams registered by 1/3, all registered corporate players will receive free entry to the Seattle New Years Open and the corporate prizes will be determined by accumulated scores of top individual performers per company.

Seattle New Years Open

Time: Friday 1/6/2023 - Sunday 1/8/2023
Format: 5-round Swiss in two sections: Open and Reserve (U1700). Both sections USCF rated. Open Section is also FIDE rated
Check-In (Mandatory): Friday 1:00pm - 4:00pm
Round Schedule: Friday 5:00pm; Saturday 10:00am, 5:00pm; Sunday 10:00am, 3:30pm.

Time Control: G/90; +30. Late default: 30 min
Byes: Two half-point byes available. Must be requested before end of round 2. Please request byes via the Request Form

Entry Fee: 
Open Section: $80 until 12/31/2022, $100 after
  * $40 play-up fee if rated under 1700 and playing in Open section
  * free entry for GM, IM, WGM, WIM

Reserve Section: $60 until 12/31/2022, $80 after

Prize Fund: $2350 (based on 50 total paid entries)
Open: 1st $500, 2nd $350, 3rd $200 - 1st U2100/U1900: $150
Reserve: 1st $300, 2nd $200, 3rd $150 - 1st U1500/U1300/U1100&Unrated: $100
Biggest Upset (per section): $25

Memberships: Current US Chess membership required. Memberships must be paid at time of registration.
FIDE ID for Foreign Players in Open Section - If you do not have a FIDEID, you will need to request a FIDEIDs from your Federation before registering for the Tournament. US Chess will not apply for Foreign FIDEIDs.

Side Events Information

Seattle New Years Blitz

Time: Friday, 1/6/2023 at 9:00 PM (after round 3 of the Pan-Am Collegiate Round and after round 1 of the Seattle New Years open)
Format: 7-round Swiss in one section. US Chess and FIDE Blitz rated. Time control: G/3;+2.
Check-In (Mandatory): 8:00-8:45pm
Schedule Rounds: 9:20 PM, 9:40, 10:00, 10:20, 10:40, 11:00, 11:20 PM. 2 half-point byes available; request by end of round 2.

Entry Fee: $30 until 1/5/23, $40 after. Free for participants of the Pan-Am Intercollegiate and Pan-Am Intercorporate tournaments.

Prize Fund: $700
1st $250, 2nd $150, 3rd $100.
1st U2000/U1700/U1400/U1100 or Unr $50.

Memberships: Current US Chess membership required. Memberships must be paid at time of registration.

Seattle New Years Puzzle Championship

Time: Friday, 1/6/2023 at 3:30 - 4:30pm

Format: to be announced soon.
Registration: $10 on site.

Awards: Medals awarded to top-3 overall finishers and to the best puzzle solver in each class: U2000, U1700, U1400 & Unrated.

Resumee Workshop (Twitch)

Twitch's recruiting team will offer a resume workshop and go over dos and don't in the application process.

No signup required. Open to all Pan-Am event attendees.

Amazon Spheres lunch groups

The Amazon Spheres are three spherical conservatories comprising part of the Amazon headquarters campus in Seattle. These bio-domes serve as an employee lounge and workspace.
Access to the spheres is generally limited to Amazon employees besides a few publicly available tours.

Members of the Amazon Chess Club will be able to bring in multiple small groups to have lunch* in the spheres, network with Amazon employees, and talk chess.

*lunch not included. Various lunch options are available around the spheres.

Chess Streamer Workshop (chess.com)

chess.com's broadcast team will offer a chess streamer workshop and go over the chess.com affiliate streamer program.

No signup required. Open to all Pan-Am event attendees

US Chess College Committee Meeting

Open meeting of the US College Chess committee. Open to all interested. Exact date and time to be confirmed.

Networking Mixer

A networking mixer organized by Red Bull. Meet fellow collegiate players and members of the corporate chess community.

Light food provided. Open to all participants of the Pan-Am events.

CEA Mentorship Program

The CEA Mentorship program connects members of the corporate and collegiate communities of similar backgrounds (profession, personal interest).

The program consists of a commitment of mentors to three 1-hour mentoring sessions over the course of 3 months.

 

Signup to the program will open up 2 weeks prior to the Pan-Ams. Mentor assignment will be done in the two weeks after the event.
